Happy Valley Goose Bay Long Term Care
Location: HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NL
Project Type: HEALTHCARE

The Long Term Care Facility in HVGB was designed as an addition to the Hospital. The building is a fifty bed accredited facility. It includes a protective care unit for patients with dementia, conference room, chapel and patient beauty salon.

Since completion in 2010, the facility has been so successful that it’s expanding. There is an extension currently under construction expected to be complete in 2016. The goal of the building is to maintain a residential character and ‘home-like’ feel while meeting the strict standards that come along with a health care facility, like infection control and patient security etc.

This facility replaced the former Paddon Home. As a gesture to the former building which had become a staple in the community, we re-used the stain glass windows from the Paddon Home’s chapel in the new Long Term Care. The extension has the goal of achieving LEED certification.
